Day Skipper Plus – who should apply?

Day Skipper Plus program is for Day Skippers who would like to refresh and bring their sailing skills and knowledge to a higher level. For ones to become more comfortable with skippering a yacht. Besides that it’s for all that would like to progress within the RYA scheme and collect the miles. As well as prepare for their RYA Coastal Skipper course.
Island of Murter in the heart of ancient Dalmatia and its nearby islands and villages provide a perfect setting for the sailing course. It’s where the turquoise colours of the sea compete every day in the beauty of their spectre and where the warm sun and a gentle sea breeze with a taste of salt and a scent of pine trees provide excellent conditions for sailing in t-shirts. As well as for swimming in the crystal clear sea.

Day Skipper Plus – what will you learn?

Day Skipper Plus program focuses on refreshing and enhancing your existing skippering skills and knowledge. It will bring you a taste of advanced navigation and skippering skills. You will learn how to communicate with crew more efficiently and how to take care of their safety and well being.
Also, you’ll learn how to sail on to/off the anchor and buoy and how to dock under sails. We’ll revise the Day Skipper theory and cover some advanced navigation and pilotage skills with an introduction to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster techniques.

We’ll also focus on advanced boat handling in tight spaces and emergency situations – rudder or engine failure and Man Overboard. Besides that you will improve your knowledge on collision regulations and weather and how it’s affecting on sailing. You will experience a night sail too.

As a part of the course you will be able to use sailing handbooks from the yacht’s library that will help you to make the most of the course. Every morning the course starts with theory lesson. After that we sail till lunch break and then we sail till docking for the night in the late afternoon.

Day Skipper Plus – Certificate after the course

There is no official certificate after this course and there is no assessment. However, instructor will thoroughly brief you on your progress. Instructor will guide you through further steps if you would like to continue with your development. Instructor will also log the miles you did during the course in your RYA Logbook.

Minimum age:
– 16 years (16 – 18 accompanied by a parent or guardian)

– RYA Day Skipper course

– Aboard of a sailing yacht in a double bed cabins (one bed cabins available upon additional payment)

Sailing area:
– Island of Murter and its’ neighbouring islands and villages, Šibenik archipelago – Prvić, Zlarin, Tijat, Kaprije, Kakan, Žirje. Skradin and National Park Krka as well as National Park Kornati and its’ archipelago.

Sailing plan is subject to change depending on the current weather conditions and the forecast. Safety first!

PACKING TIPS

Sailing gloves, two pairs of non-slip shoes or sneakers, T-shirts and long sleeve shirts, short and long pants, strong sunscreen, a cap or a hat, sunglasses, towels, personal hygiene items, bathing suit, towels, mosquito repellent.

If you are sailing during colder months, please bring your sailing suit, or a warm, waterproof jacket, pants (and a sleeping bag if you prefer).

Please remember to bring personal medications if required.
