VHF Marine radio (SRC)

The VHF Marine radio is an international open communication system and it is vital to understand the rules and correct procedures . By law any operator of a VHF marine radio or DSC equipment must be holder of an appropriate qualification. The short range certification is the minimum qualification on any yacht voluntarily fitted with a VHF/DSC radio.
Program

Intended for:

For anyone who wants to own or to operate a handheld and/or fixed marine VHF/DSC radio.

MINIMUM AGE:

16

Course content:

  • The basics of VHF/DSC Marine radio operation
  • The use of correct frequencies (channels)
  • Procedures for distress, emergency and medical assistance calls
  • Making ship to shore calls
  • Using Digital Selective Calling (DSC) simulators
  • Understanding the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
  • The use of an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
  • The use a Search and Rescue radar transponder (SART)

Certification:

  • Maritime radio operator certificate of competence – Short range certificate issued by the RYA on behalf of the MCA (UK)

Ability after the course:

  • Operate a VHF DSC Marine radio

Examination:

  • After the course , there is On line examination for the course completion certificate which is required to come to the final practical exam
  • Final written and Practical examination at the RYA school on real training radio’s with an RYA assessor ( duration approx 60 minutes )

MINIMUM DURATION:

The on line course takes between 6 to 8 hours

130 € for the online course per person to be paid to the RYA school

The online SRC course and taster have the following minimum technical requirements::

  • Internet connection (broadband or 3G). Charges may apply for 3G
  • 1024 x 768 screen resolution - this must be available screen space (menu bars, docks or task bars may conceal part of the course window on smaller screens)
  • Microphone and speakers/headphones

  • 1 GHz (x86) processor 512 MB RAM

  • Quicktime (for viewing videos) available here. Netbooks are not supported due to the reduced screen resolution.

HOW TO BOOK A ONLINE VHF/SRC COURSE INCLUDING THE EXAM?

STEP BY STEP

  1. Have a look on the introductory video
  2. Make sure your computer is compatible with the online course by trying the taster
  3. Book the online course at info@anasail.com. We will send you an invoice by mail
  4. After we receive your payment we will send you a link, a username and password
  5. We will send you a course pack , but you don’t need to wait for this to start your course
  6. You complete the course and do the online pre-exam knowledge check (Maximum 3 attempts)
  7. Download your course completion certificate
  8. Book your VHF/SRC practical exam at NCP mail: info@anasail.com
  9. Pay the fee for the final exam directly online to the RYA at this link https://www.rya.org.uk/exam-payments/Pages/hub.aspx . Bring copy of the online payment confirmation to the exam .
  10. Do the written and practical exam on real training radio’s with an RYA assessor
  11. On successful completion of the assessment (practical & written paper) the VHF application form will be sent to the RYA along with your passport photo and the RYA certification department will then post your RYA VHF certificate directly to you. (4 to 6 weeks later)

NOTE

The operator’s licence (Short Range Certificate) you will receive is for Class D VHF/DSC radios, the type fitted to most leisure craft. It is generally internationally accepted, but to operate a radio on a non British flagged boats craft you should contact the appropriate national authority.

To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org.
This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.

Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org in order to create your user account. On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course.

Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of [***enter your support period here***] from the date of your course booking.

On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA’s central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required. After one year from the date of your enrolment on the course, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org. Full details of how the RYA will deal with your personal information will be displayed when you first access www.ryainteractive.org.
