This course is a great introduction to cruising for new skippers! You will learn about chart work, navigation, meteorology, basics of seamanship and much more.

This course will give you the theory knowledge required to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights buoyage is also included to introduce you to night cruising

The completion of the course is invaluable for your next step – RYA Day Skipper practical course on board of a yacht.

ARRIVAL AND FIRST MEETING:

Sunday 9:45 am * pm, ANA office, ACI marina Jezera, Obala Sv. Ivana BB, Jezera

CONTENT
  • Chart work – symbols, marks, shapes, lights, use of rulers and dividers
  • Navigation – latitude, longitude, calculation of magnetic variation and compass deviation
  • Plotting a course to steer
  • Coastal navigation and pilotage – passage planning, pilotage planning
  • Position fixing – traditional (three point fix, dead reckoning, estimated position) and electronic
  • Tides and tidal calculations – tidal highs and lows, use of tide tables, tidal streams atlases and tidal diamonds
  • Weather forecasting and terminology
  • Collision regulations, day shapes, lights and sound signals
  • Stability, construction, parts and equipment of a sailing yacht
  • Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and life-rafts, helicopter rescue, firefighting and prevention.

KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED:

  • The knowledge gained on the theoretical course is a prerequisite for the RYA Day Skipper practical course.

CERTIFICATE AFTER THE RYA DAY SKIPPER THEORY SHOREBASED COURSE:

  • RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Certificate - after successfully completing the assessment
